Without a good mechanical report? I’m leaning towards it being in a state of long term disrepair that impacts  ability to ever function at the higher level you have in mind.

Those are nice. One of the airports I used to regularly bring passengers to in Iowa had one as their airport car. Super comfortable and good power. I wouldn’t say fun to drive, but it was charming and would be great to drive long distances in.

Price seems fair to me, but I’d want to give it a good inspection.

I don’t know much about these but they are very comfortable and have good power w/ the supercharged as well as a cavernous trunk. Yet my friend fit the subwoofer at the rear to completely block the opening on his. Sorry what was I saying?

Dang. I love me a park ave but 3500 for a car with 200k miles?

I’d negotiate on a price a bit. 1800 is a good price. Lower is even better.

I am guessing (haven’t checked the ad) is that it will need brakes, tires, fluids and filters at the very least.

That’s around a grand right there. Who knows if it needs anything fixed

Edit: I checked the ad. Tires looked OK - at least one passenger front looked like it had decent threads left.

I am always hesitant buying a polished turd tho. The fact that they rubbed some armorall on the tires make me question it.

Like I said. 3500 is a bit high. For under 2k is a great car.

After spinning a rod bearing in my LS1 Camaro right before my wedding, I borrowed a Buick Park Avenue for a couple weeks to commute to work until I found another ride or fixed the Catfish. It was an NA model with like 350,000.

I hated it at first as it was the antithesis of everything I like in a car, but a week of quiet comfort, surprising fuel economy and flying under the radar truly sold me on the virtues of these big, FWD GM’s. I had to have one for daily duty.

I looked for Ultras as well as clean NA cars. I looked for basically everything that came with the 3800 V6. Impalas, Grand Prixs, Bonnies, Regals, ect ect. I found a few acceptable candidates, then one day a one owner, ‘93 Grand Sport popped up on my road for sale. It was the classic old lady story. I gave the $2,500 asking price.

The thing had a folder full of maintenance history, all brochures, dealer business card, window sticker and everything else. Better yet, this one actually has a performance edge and handles so surprisingly well. It has a Macpherson strut front suspension and a transverse leaf spring out back (think Corvette). It handles very similar to my old E34, but never gets tail happy. This is the most forgiving car I’ve here had to give mid corner correction to. It’s unflappable.

The series 1 NA 3800 is slow (ran 16.8's in Norwalk last year at the Dick Miller Racing Buick vs. Olds throwdown) and the auto is no fun, but it’s an excellent  car to commute in. I wanted something economical, practical, comfortable, blah blah blah, but with personality. These old Buicks deliver on all that.

Regarding the Ultra, I do wonder if you could find a lower mile example for the money. I’m confident you can if you open your search up a bit. Hit up searchtempest and use the Facebook marketplace. You may have to travel a little, but I think you can do better so I’m voting CP on this particular example.

Here’s my beater.

Also, check out the chassis rigidity. Note where the jack is. I was actually working on the front tire, but the rear raised right up as well. I ended up swapping the rear tire to the front and putting the space saver out back. I avoid donuts on the drive wheels 100% if I can help it. A 4th gen Camaro or Fox Body Mustang would not be this stiff without subframe connectors. The rear tire would still be on the ground.
